October is...Mental Wellness Month
Oct 1, 2015

The University of Toronto is celebrating Mental Wellness Month this October across all three campuses. Be part of the UTSC community and join this campaign by taking the opportunity to align your programs, lectures, and projects to recognize mental health and wellness during this month. Feel free to use #BeWellUofT #UTSC!

As a campus, we can have open discussions about mental health, decrease stigma related to mental illness and promote self-care as a supportive community. Small changes can have a big impact on your overall wellness. See below of some events on campus and check the Intranet for more details of events at UTSC!

According to the Centre for Addictions and Mental Health, an estimated one in five Canadians, in any given year, will experience a mental health or addiction problem.* In Canada, youth between the ages of 15 and 24 are the population group most likely to experience mental health issues and/or substance abuse disorders, with suicide being the second leading cause of death among those ages 10 to 19.* (taken from https://utoronto.morefeetontheground.ca/)

Part of providing a supportive environment on campus is knowing what to do when someone is reaching out to you for help.  This training is beneficial as a student, staff or faculty member.  You are welcome to share it throughout our campus community.
