Speaker Profile

Johanna Sirera Ransmeier is a PhD Candidate in the Department of History at Yale University, and will complete her degree this spring.

Her dissertation, entitled "No Other Choice": The Sale of People in Late Qing and Republican Beijing, examines the intersection of family life,

local neighborhood and community networks, and human trafficking. Before graduate school Johanna Ransmeier worked in Shanghai, and for human

rights organizations based in New York City.
