UTSC Library invites you to a screening of The Search for General Tso

Please join us for a screening of the tastiest documentary, "The Search for General Tso", and a preview of the UTSC Library's collection of 10,000 historical Chinese food menus from around North America.

With remarks from Prof. Dan Bender (Historical & Cultural Studies and Director, Culinaria Research Centre) and Victoria Owen (Chief Librarian, UTSC Library) you will get a taste of the Chinese immigrant experience, as told through the Harley Spiller Collection of 10,000 Chinese food menus (curated by UTSC Archivist, Amanda Tome). The Library's Digital Scholarship Unit is currently digitizing the collection, which will help researchers explore the relationship between migration and food culture.

The menu collection is greatly featured in the Ian Cheney's recent documentary, "The Search for General Tso." General Tso's chicken is featured on Chinese food menus across North America, but who was General Tso and how did this dish become so iconic?

Learn more about the menu collection and more about the film.

Please RSVP. Light refreshments will be served!
