Green the Campus: Hickory Sticks Event

HICKORY STICKS – Thursday, October 11 from 12 noon to 1:30 p.m.

Help to beautify the area behind Hickory Hall residence along the Ring Road by planting trees and shrubs. Some of the tree species that may be planted include Silver Maple and White Cedar, and shrubs may include Alternate-Leaved Dogwood and Snowberries. Organizers are also planning to host a “seed shaking” to help spread nature around. Meet at the Residence Centre at 12 noon.

This event is part of another year of environmental initiatives at the University of Toronto Scarborough.

The Green the Campus efforts are continuing as part of a partnership between the University of Toronto Scarborough and Evergreen, a non-profit organization that builds the relationship between nature, culture and community in urban spaces.

Several events are planned for the weeks ahead. Committee members urge faculty, staff and students to volunteer for an event, noting that people can get  some fresh air and exercise while beautifying the campus.

Gloves and equipment will be provided, and volunteers can sign up on the campus intranet.

Volunteers can sign up via the intranet.
