Music of the Americas

 

In celebration of the Toronto 2015 Pan Am Games, the Department of Arts, Culture and Media presents: 

Music of the Americas, formerly known as our Spring Awakening concert, presents UTSC’s various music ensembles performing classical and contemporary works they have studied and practised throughout the semester. With the upcoming Toronto 2015 Pan American and Parapan American Games in mind, the program is inspired by the music of North and South America, including Canada, the US, Mexico, Cuba, Brazil and Argentina. 

The afternoon will feature the UTSC String Orchestra and Concert Choir with special guests The Trudeau Singers from Pierre Elliot Trudeau High School. The concert choir will also be accompanied by the Redeemer University College Concert Choir and Alumni for two performances of Mozart's Requiem in d and Bach's great cantata "Christ lag in Todes Banden. Following intermission UTSC’s Concert Band will be performing various compositions in different styles and genres including a Suite on Canadian Folk Songs. As part of this year's Concert Band performance, senior student, Uthayatharshi Sivathason, will be performing a rendition of Serenade for Solo B-flat Clarinet and Band, composed by Alfred Reed. 

The concert will take place on Sunday, March 22nd from 3pm to 5pm in AC 223(Academic Resource Centre) at UTSC (1265 Military Trail). Admission is free and we welcome everyone to join us for an afternoon of delightful music. Light refreshments will be served.
