Transit between Scarborough and the GTA is set to become more flexible and frequent beginning September 2, when the Toronto Transit Commission launches the new 198 U of T Scarborough Rocket bus service between Kennedy Station and the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC).

The 198 will replace the current 116E Morningside bus service and aims to provide UTSC and the broader Scarborough community with more options for access to popular destinations and other transit services.

“The TTC is proud to launch the 198 U of T Scarborough Rocket, a limited stop express bus providing greater flexibility for TTC commuters in Scarborough and beyond,” says Cheryn Thoun, the TTC’s head of communications. “The 198 will be a convenient hub to other TTC service and regional transit connections, so whether you need to access GO Transit or Durham Region Transit, the U of T community will have greater options and improved service.”

The 198 will operate Monday to Friday, departing every 10 minutes during the day and every 15 minutes during the evening. The service will run from 6:30 a.m. to 11:05 p.m. departing from Kennedy Station, and 7 a.m. to 11:05 p.m. departing from UTSC. Travel time in each direction will be 30 minutes and riders who need to use local stops can continue to take the 116A.

The buses on the 198 U of T Scarborough Rocket service are fully accessible and environmentally friendly, and are equipped with bicycle racks to extend travel options.

The University of Toronto has been an active partner in developing transit options with the TTC. UTSC students, faculty and staff can purchase Metropasses at a discount from the Scarborough Campus Students’ Union at UTSC in room SL108 the third week of every month.
