More top students are making UTSC their first choice

Applications from prospective students are rolling in, and it’s becoming clear that the University of Toronto Scarborough’s reputation among top students is growing.

“We’re very proud that high school students in Ontario and from around the world are choosing UTSC,” says Registrar Curtis Cole. “It says a lot about the quality of our programs that so many prospective undergraduates want to come to our campus.”

UTSC has seen a significant increase in applications from Ontario students with average grades of over 90 per cent. In fact, there has been a 16 per cent increase over last year in the number of these top students who have made UTSC their first choice.

Many more Ontario high school students are naming many specific programs at UTSC as their first choice. Computer & Mathematical Sciences and its co-op program have each seen an increase of more than 60 per cent in first-choice applicants. Applications to the Paramedicine program (a joint program with Centennial College) are up 21 per cent, and UTSC’s social sciences programs have 11 per cent more applicants than last year. Other programs with an increase in first-choice applications are Management & International Business Co-op, Physical & Environmental Sciences Co-op and Life Sciences Co-op.

“Our unique programs and experiential focus are what attract students to UTSC,” says Shelby Verboven, Director of Recruitment. “Students tell us over and over that they are excited to pursue a prestigious U of T degree in a supportive, vibrant community.”
