No need for loved ones to book a ticket or drive downtown: graduation ceremonies can be experienced on the web

The pomp and circumstance of graduation has gone virtual. This year’s graduating class will be one of the largest ever.  Recognizing that graduands want as many family and friends to participate in this special occasion as possible, the University of Toronto will web cast all ceremonies for Spring Convocation.  In addition, the U of T Scarborough has made arrangements to simulcast its two graduation ceremonies on Tuesday, June 12th.

Since Convocation Hall has limited seating capacity, it has never been possible to provide graduands with unlimited tickets.  Friends and family will be able to watch the graduation service on line through a web cast, which will be played on the following web site:   www.utoronto.ca/convocation  Detailed information will be posted closer to the ceremony date.  No need for loved ones to make travel arrangements or wait for graduation pictures to be developed or downloaded.  They can watch this proud moment in the comfort of their own home. The web casts will be archived year round for those who wish to watch it over and over. As this graduating class is so large, arrangements have been made to simulcast the graduation ceremony into the Medical Sciences Building Auditorium, which is steps away from the main event.  The Auditorium has a seating capacity of 500.  Every effort will be made to honor requests for the maximum two guest tickets in Convocation Hall for each eligible graduand attending the ceremony.

There is a slight possibility that spill over seating into the Auditorium might be necessary.  Once each graduand is allotted their maximum two guest tickets, any space left over will be offered as extra seating for friends and relatives who also wish to attend.

It’s very important to RSVP early and order guest tickets online between May 16 – 24.   The University will make every effort, but may not be able to guarantee guest tickets for graduands who miss the deadline.  Regular guest tickets will be available for pick-up from May 30th to June 7th at the Registrar’s Office in Room AA142.  Extra tickets will be distributed on a first come, first served basis on Friday, June 8th from the U of T Scarborough Registrar’s Office. More information about spring convocation can be found at: www.utsc.utoronto.ca/registrar - select Graduation tab.
