Technology leader to speak at The Hub

Xtreme Labs Inc. founder and VP Engineering Farhan Thawar will be the keynote speaker at UTSC’s The Hub on Wednesday June 5.

A respected figure in Toronto’s technology community, Thawar will address students and staff members on the theme of working in a world of rapidly changing mobile technology.

A dynamic character and a leader in the communication technology industry, Thawar was named one of Toronto’s top 25 Most Powerful People in 2010. He is a graduate of U of T’s Rotman School of Management and holds a computer science degree from University of Waterloo.

Thawar will speak on "How to work" in a world of rapidly changing technology at 4 pm in IC 220.

Launched in March this year, The Hub serves as a venue for students and staff to come together and generate new and creative ideas in any domain of expertise.

“The Hub is an innovation centre that acts as a stepping stone for entrepreneurial students who may want to launch an initiative at an incubator like Xtreme Labs, somewhere down the road,” says Gray Graffam, director of The Hub.

Through The Hub, three students won the Appstar Mobile App Development Contest for creating What2Eat@UTSC, which helps users make choices of food available on campus. Graffam is also leading a selected group of students to explore their ideas through a program called IDEA (Innovative Design, Entrepreneurial Action), borne under The Hub.
