UTSC to host Eastern GTA Eco Summit

 

The University of Toronto Scarborough will host a unique environmental summit this Friday aimed at creating a coherent environmental agenda for the eastern GTA.   

The goal of the summit is to harness the passion for the environment already present in the region in order to move towards a more sustainable future, notes Tim Lang, summit organizer and manager of the UTSC Sustainability Office. 

“It’s a great opportunity for individuals and organizations working on sustainability initiatives in the Eastern GTA to meet and work together on developing a common direction on key sustainability issues,” he says.

The summit will begin with an Eco Fair starting at noon followed by the launch of SmartCommute Scarborough at 1:30 p.m. SmartCommute is a City of Toronto and Metrolinx funded program aimed at promoting more sustainable commuting options to businesses.

Later In the afternoon there will be a panel discussion with influential leaders from various organizations in the eastern GTA including Metrolinx, Evergreen, the Toronto & Region Conservation Authority and Foodshare.

The summit takes place Friday, April 12, from noon to 4 p.m. in the Science Research Building. Anyone interested in providing direction for an environmental agenda in the eastern GTA is welcome to attend.
