Office offers career, research opportunities to UTSC faculty and grad students

Roger Francis, director of arts and science co-op at UTSC, with Michael Powers from Mitacs during the UTSC-Mitacs meet and greet session February 14. The event marked the opening of a Mitacs office on the UTSC campus.

A new Mitacs office opening on campus will aim to facilitate career and research opportunities for UTSC faculty and graduate students.

Mitacs is a government-funded research network that brings together academia, industry and the public sector to develop research-based commercial products. The new office on campus will provide information about the unique research and training programs that are available to UTSC faculty and graduate students.

“We want to more accessible to students and faculty here at UTSC but also raise awareness that we are an all-discipline organization,” says Michael Powers, director of business development for Mitacs. He adds the suite of programs Mitacs offers has expanded beyond only math and science projects to include different disciplines such as anthropology, fine arts and psychology, to name a few.

Office hours will be held every third Wednesday of the month from 10 a.m. to noon in IC 273. Those who cannot make the regular office hours can contact Michael Powers at for more information.
