Rainbow Tie Gala will celebrate sexual and gender diversity

More than 300 students, faculty and staff are expected to attend the 4th Annual Rainbow Tie Gala Wednesday at the Meeting Place.

The event, organized by the Principal's Advisory Committee on Positive Space at Scarborough, is a celebration intended for UTSC’s LBGTQ community and its allies. Everyone is encouraged to attend.

“It’s a celebration of sexual and gender diversity,” says Mike Plumton, Training and Programming Coordinator in Student Housing & Residence Life, and Co-Chair of the Positive Space Committee. “It’s an opportunity to think about all the labels we put on people – for example, gay, lesbian, transgender, straight. At the Rainbow Tie Gala everyone is celebrated.”

There’s no dress code, but people are encouraged to wear their rainbow tie. “It’s like a stuffy black tie gala, with a fun rainbow spin,” Plumton says.

The party will also mark the opening of Multiplicity: Scarborough Identity at Gallery 1265, just off the Meeting Place. The art show is sponsored by the Positive Space Committee featuring art by members of the UTSC community.

The gala is free, and no ticket is required. It will feature food, live music, a talent show, and a cash bar. For more information visit http://www.positivespace.utoronto.ca/Positive_Space_at___Scarborough.htm
