Record number of UTSC students recognized at Academic Awards Nights

The Meeting Place was packed November 27 and 28 in celebration of Academic Awards Night. In total, 530 awards were presented to UTSC students over two nights.

The UTSC community gathered over two nights to celebrate academic excellence at the annual Academic Awards Nights on November 27 and 28 in the Meeting Place.

A record number 530 awards were presented over both nights in honour of student achievement, an indication of not only how much the ceremony has grown in recent years but also a reflection of the high standard of scholarship present on campus.

The ceremonies were broken into two evenings of celebration: one for arts, humanities and management, and the other for math and science, while the award donors were also thanked for their generosity in making the event possible.

UTSC Principal Franco Vaccarino praised each student for their hard work and commitment to scholarship. “Awards are an important gesture and an indication of the value placed on the quality of hard work,” he said. “It’s gratifying to see so many deserving students being honoured this year.”

Both awards ceremonies were preceded by the Friends of UTSC reception where award donors had the opportunity to meet with student recipients and their invited guests. UTSC Dean and Vice-Principal Rick Halpern hosted the ceremonies and noted that in addition to honouring student success, it was a true reflection of the university’s primary goal.

“We are excited to see our extended community with us tonight to witness firsthand our main mission of providing top quality education to young people who will be the leaders of tomorrow," he said.
