You’re Invited! Attend the historic groundbreaking celebration for UTSC’s new aquatic centre

On September 27, the University of Toronto Scarborough will celebrate a major milestone in its ongoing transformation, as the campus hosts the groundbreaking ceremony and celebration for the future aquatics centre and field house complex being built at the corner of Military Trail and Morningside Avenue.

All students, faculty, staff, alumni and members of the community are invited to attend this historic event.

The afternoon will begin with short speeches by dignitaries and project partners, including UTSC Principal Franco Vaccarino and SCSU President Abdalla Al-Baalawy. Attendees will be the first to see renderings of the new facility as well as a fly-through video of the building and its features. Speeches will be followed by the groundbreaking ceremony itself.

Throughout, a community fun fair will feature live sport demonstrations, a chance to meet athletes, music, performances, food and games.

“The UTSC community is proud to be the future home of a truly world-class aquatics and athletics facility,” says Vaccarino. “I hope everyone can join us to celebrate this next step in UTSC’s exciting evolution.”

The new facility represents the largest investment in amateur sport infrastructure ever made in Canada. In 2015, it will host the aquatics, fencing and modern pentathlon components of the 2015 Pan/Parapan American Games. When the Games are over, the centre will be owned and operated by UTSC and the City of Toronto. This will create a powerful legacy of inspiration, recreation, education and transformation, both for the university and the entire region.

When: Thursday September 27, 12:00 PM, weather permitting
