Videos win UTSC students trip to Ottawa

Two UTSC students will head to Ottawa to attend a conference about artists and the law after their YouTube videos won them bursaries from the conference organizers.

Arts management students Blanche Israёl and Lesley Bramhill submitted YouTube videos as part of a contest run by the Canadian Artists' Representation/Le Front des artistes canadiens (CARFAC), which offered the winners the chance to attend the June conference in Ottawa called Art + Law.

The students found out about the conference after Sherri Helwig, program director for arts management, posted about it on her Facebook page.

Entrants had to create videos, upload them to YouTube and garner the greatest number of votes to win,” Helwig says. “With a bit of sharing, help from faculty and other UTSC students they were both successful.”

Not only did the two students win bursaries, but other students also became interested in attending the conference after they became aware of it through the contest, Helwig says.
