Meet UTSC’s New Communications Team

The newly reorganized Communications & Public Affairs department is eager to hear your stories and promote them to the campus community and the world beyond. We’re especially on the lookout for stories that demonstrate UTSC’s strength in cutting-edge research, our leadership in pedagogy and experiential learning, and our emergence as the intellectual and cultural hub for the eastern GTA.

Former staff writer Andrew Westoll has moved into the role of Assistant Director, Editorial. He will be the editor and head writer of our new campus magazine, UTSC Commons, and will oversee story planning and implementation for all UTSC publications.  Andrew’s leadership will help guide the UTSC community in the expression of our new brand story.

Kurt Kleiner has moved into the position of Managing Editor, Online Content.  Kurt will lead the writing and production of online content, including news broadcasts and articles, for distribution on all web and social media channels. He will also be the editor and head writer of the campus e-newsletter, Inside UTSC.

Perry Sheppard joins the department from the Centre for Teaching & Learning as our new Web & New Media Manager. Perry will oversee the evolution of content, branding and functionality on the UTSC website, including a focus on maximizing new media platforms and multimedia assets such as video and photography. In collaboration with Andrew Egan in IITS’s Web Design team, Perry will help steer a campus-wide website redesign.

Don Campbell has joined the team as Media Relations & Communications Assistant. Don will work to facilitate media inquiries, issue press releases and promote UTSC experts to all forms of media, with the goal of extending UTSC’s media reach and contact base. He will also be the department’s main contact for events.

Ken Jones remains our Photographer and will continue with his key role of chronicling UTSC life through photographic images. He is responsible for UTSC’s image archive.

Joycelyn Reid, Department Assistant, is the key contact for department accounting and distribution of brand identity imagery and publications.
