Journalism students receive magazine award

AWARD-WINNING MAGAZINE: Left to right, front row are journalism students Tevy Pilc, Katrina Rozal and Maxx Smith. Back row, left to right are journalism professor Ellin Bessner and Barry Finn of the IPAO.

Students from the U of T Scarborough and Centennial College joint program in journalism recently received an award from the Independent Publisher Association of Ontario for their senior class magazine project, which “takes a bite” out of the politics of food.

CHOMP magazine examines issues such as the debate over what universities should have on their menus (junk versus healthy foods) to student engagement in food policy making in Toronto and stories of outreach during these recession times.

The winning students are Katrina Rozal, Tevy Pilc, Maxx Smith, and Lauren Hummel. To read the full story and see photos on Professor Ellin Bessner’s blog, click here.
