What is the ISC’s Study/Volunteer/Travel Abroad Ambassadors Program?

The Study Abroad Ambassadors program was piloted in September 2008 – March 2009 with 6 amazing student leaders.  Under the general direction of the ISC Coordinator, International Students & Study Abroad Programs the peer-to-peer program promoted global opportunities to students, staff and faculty at U of T Scarborough.

With an overwhelmingly successful pilot year (including over 25 presentations, events and activities) we are back by popular demand for the 2009-10 academic year.  This year, we have expanded to 17 Peer Ambassadors who were selected from over 150 applicants!

Who are Study/Volunteer/Travel Abroad Ambassadors?

Ambassadors are friendly, outgoing, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic students who want to share their experiences abroad with other students.  Ambassadors represent the ISC at office hours, information fairs, campus events, recruitment days and orientation activities.

Ambassadors are current University of Toronto Scarborough students who have participated in one or more of the following international study/volunteer/travel opportunities:

  • Student Exchange program offered by U of T’s International Student eXchange Office (ISXO)
  • Summer Abroad program offered by U of T’s Professional & International Programs Office
  • Study Elsewhere program approved by U of T Scarborough’s Admissions & Student Recruitment Office
  • Explore program administered by the Council of Ministers of Education, Canada (CMEC)
  • Volunteer program recognized by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA)
  • Extensive independent travel/backpacking around the world

How can I meet 1 on 1 with an ISC Study/Volunteer/Travel Abroad Ambassadors Ambassador?

  • All Ambassadors hold regular office hours in the ISC, SL-151
  • The schedule of offices hours for Fall 2009 is posted on the ISC website
  • Office hours are completely “drop-in” and students can meet with peers
  • No appointments are necessary for office hours
