Announcement:  2009 Gordon Cressy Award Nominations Open

The University of Toronto Scarborough is home to many students who are making their presence felt outside the classroom and around the world through international development and outreach. Here’s an exciting opportunity to recognize their efforts and contributions. The Office of Alumni Relations invites you to submit nominations for the 2009 Gordon Cressy Student Leadership Award.

The 2009 Gordon Cressy Student Leadership Award nomination form is now available to download at www.alumni.utoronto.ca/cressyawards <http://www.alumni.utoronto.ca/cressyawards>.

Please note the following deadlines:

Completed Nomination Forms, with all attachments in duplicate, must be submitted to the Office of Alumni Relations by *WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 19, 2008*.

Selection Criteria

Eligibility

  • Students must be eligible or intending to graduate in November 2008 or June 2009.
  • Students must be currently enrolled at the University of Toronto in either a full- or part-time capacity.
  • Students must be in good academic standing with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.7 (B-).
  • Students may receive only one Cressy Award in their academic career.

A nominee’s contribution may take the form of any one, or a combination, of the following:

  •  Leadership on committees or influence on student or university affairs
  •  Contributions to the co-curricular experience
  •  Encouragement of fellow students to become involved in extra-curricular activities
  • Contribution to the sense of community at U of T
  • Volunteer service outside the university community will also be considered.

Guidelines for nominations

  • We recommend that nominees have completed at least one year of volunteer service. Students are being recognized for volunteer service, not paid positions.

  • Leadership and involvement should be considered in relation to academic achievement.
  • The value of the student’s contribution, rather than the office held, should be the major criterion considered.

All recipients will be honored at a special, awards ceremony hosted by Professor David Naylor, President of the University of Toronto, on Tuesday, March 31, 2009 at the Colony Grande Ballroom at 89 Chestnut Residence <http://www.chestnutresidence.utoronto.ca/>. Award recipients will each receive a framed certificate.
