Volunteers needed for fall planting and cleanup events

by Mary Ann Gratton

This fall marks the launch of a new season of environmental initiatives at the University of Toronto Scarborough.

The Green the Campus efforts are continuing as part of a partnership between the University of Toronto Scarborough and Evergreen, a non-profit organization that builds the relationship between nature, culture and community in urban spaces.

Several upcoming events are planned, and volunteers are invited to “come out and get their hands dirty” whether it’s for 15 minutes or during a lunch hour. Members of the campus Evergreen committee encourage faculty, staff and students to come out and volunteer for an event, noting that it’s a good way to get some fresh air and exercise while enhancing the natural beauty of the campus.

“The campus community has really gotten behind these activities in the past, and we are looking forward to the support of volunteers for another season of fabulous green events at the University of Toronto Scarborough,” said Tim Lang, Sustainability Coordinator. “It’s important for us as an educational institution to promote activities that foster an appreciation for the environment and provide hands-on learning related to our natural surroundings.”

Gloves and equipment will be provided. Volunteers are asked to bring a reusable water bottle. Signup can be done through the campus Intranet.
