Earth Hour

Created to take a stand against climate change, Earth Hour uses the simple action of turning off the lights for one hour to deliver a powerful message about the need for action on global warming. U of T Scarborough supports all students, faculty, and staff who would like to participate in the Earth Hour movement by turning out their lights between 8pm and 9pm on Saturday, March 29th, 2008.

Members of the campus community can either participate by turning out their lights on campus, or by doing so in their homes. All who intend to support Earth Hour 2008 are encouraged to sign up for this event, automatically adding their name to the list of those who are participating, which will be posted on the U of T Scarborough Sustainability Office website.

Other campus community members can also rest assured that this is a voluntary event, and no one will be forced to have their lights turned out during this time. Also, all lighting in public areas and outdoor spaces will remain unchanged in so that public safety will be in no way compromised.

If there are any further questions about the details of this event at U of T Scarborough, please contact the Sustainability Coordinator, Tim Lang, at sustainability@utsc.utoronto.ca.
