Principal's message

by Franco Vaccarino

The Fall term has arrived.  I hope you had an opportunity to enjoy some down time with your friends and family.

At UTSC, the visible expression of our transformative journey is all around us.  Staff and construction crews were busy over the summer preparing our grounds for the arrival of new and returning students, faculty and staff.  We now have a new East Arrival Court that enhances the commuter experience for our community.

The expansion of the North campus is taking shape. In the not-too distant future, the Instructional Centre will have new neighbours, beginning with the new Athletics Centre.  Construction of this centre, our campus’s largest ever facility, is now underway.

With all of these projects underway, I understand the disruption that many of you have experienced.  In this regard, let me also take this opportunity to thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue to work through our numerous building projects.

On the academic side of our house, I am pleased to welcome new academic leaders and talented faculty to our ranks.  With the addition of six academic departments and two new centres, our scholarly offerings continue to be bolstered by world-class professors who are calling UTSC home. The depth and strength of our programs, the excellence of our faculty and staff plus the continued enhancement to our facilities make our campus a natural and strong destination of choice.

With so much happening, keeping in touch continues to be a key objective for us.  We are committed to staying connected with you, whether through this e-newsletter, our revamped magazine, our annual review or the soon to be revamped website. As we move forward in our individual roles on campus, let me take this opportunity to express my appreciation and thanks for all you do to keep UTSC on the leading edge of scholarship and learning.  We truly are creating tomorrow together.
