Opera at UTSC a success

As part of the Opera by Request Series, the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC) Concert Choir and the Ensemble TrypTych Chamber Choir presented Saint of Bleecker Street last month at the Leigha Lee Browne Theatre.

Written by the American composer Gian Carlo Menotti, Saint of Bleecker Street is set in 1950s Little Italy of New York City. Annina, played by Deena Nicklefork, is a Catholic woman showing signs of the stigmata and is being called a saint by her religious neighbours. Her atheist brother, Michele, played by Avery Krisman, is worried that his sister is mentally ill and concerns himself with efforts to hospitalize her.

Here’s a slideshow of the opera in rehearsal.
