CFUW recognition event to be held

by Kurt Kleiner

UTSC Principal and Vice-President Franco Vaccarino and Executive Director, Development and Alumni Relations Georgette Zinaty will host the Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW) Scarborough Donor Recognition and Stewardship Event December 1 from 5:30 to 7 pm.

In 2004, the CFUW established an Entrance and In-Course Scholarship Fund at UTSC.  This endowed fund was made possible by CFUW’s $56,000 donation, which was matched 1:1 by the government’s Ontario  Student Opportunity Trust Fund (OSOTF II).  Interest generated from the fund provides annual cash awards for deserving UTSC students, in perpetuity.

On July 28, 2011, CFUW Board members Gail Doherty and Kathie Krashinsky presented Georgette Zinaty with a cheque for $6,268.07 towards the CFUW Scarborough Entrance and In-Course Scholarship Fund, which now totals over $118,000.

CFUW Scholarship Awards are based on good academic record (minimum 3.0 GPA), financial need, active commitment and engagement, and demonstrated outstanding leadership qualities benefiting the community (student’s high school or community at large).

Each year, one award is presented to a first-year UTSC Humanities student who has graduated from a Scarborough high school; as well as two additional awards for third- or fourth-year UTSC students completing a major in a Women Studies Program or issues impacting women.
