Groups and Workshops Winter 2012

1, Mastering Your Mood (4 weeks)

 

This group will provide you with an opportunity to share personal experiences and learn new coping strategies. Topics will include relaxation and stress management techniques, an introduction to mindfulness meditation, an exploration of how thoughts and feelings are connected, how to alter negative thinking, ways to improve relationships and self care strategies. This group is also appropriate for persons dealing with depression and anxiety.

Facilitator: Dr. Liz Tashis

Time: Wednesdays, 3 – 4:30 pm starting January 25 to February 15

2, SLEEP

 

Frustrated by restless nights? Dozing off in class? Sleep deprivation can take a toll on your grades, relationships, and overall mental health. Learn how to eliminate barriers to sleep with a few simple, effective techniques. This workshop will teach you how to create a better sleep environment, and improve your health with natural, restful sleep.

3, STRESS MANAGEMENT

 

Are you feeling stressed and anxious about school? Are you having trouble juggling your school work? Here is a chance for you to take steps toward managing your academic stress. In this workshop you will learn to:

-        Overcome negative thoughts

-        Recognize and manage signs of stress

-        Use relaxation techniques to manage anxiety

-        Organize and prioritize your school work

-        Use the potpourri of time management principle

4, Fighting Procrastination: An Interactive Workshop

 

It’s 11 pm, and you still haven’t started that final paper due tomorrow morning.  You feel like you’re always frantically running from task to task to try to get your assignments handed in on time.  If these scenarios seem familiar, you may be struggling with procrastination – starting your assignments late despite expecting that delaying will leave you worse off.  If you are interested in reducing your procrastination, please join us for an interactive workshop.  During the workshop, we will discuss what procrastination looks like and learn some strategies for reducing procrastination.

5, MINDFULNESS

 

This group will allow you to develop a sense of “mindfulness,” which is a non-judgemental, moment-to-moment awareness of being in the here and now.  In this group you will learn the basic concepts of Mindfulness, as well as experience a number of interactive Mindfulness activities, including a basic meditation and body scan.
